“If Willy Wonka can create a world of pure imagination, why can't we create a new world for children with cancer?” asked Allison Clarke, co-founder with her husband, Kip, of Flashes of Hope.

One-thousand guests at Big Shots, Little Stars heard the call and gave generously — about $500,000 to the campaign.

The Willy Wonka candy factory motif at Quicken Loans was stunning — from the live roaming Oompa Loompas, to the model wearing a skirt of shelves of scrumptious cupcakes she passed out from the runway. As guests bid farewell, they scooped up Smarties, truffles and Pixy Stix from a loaded candy bar.

The fashion show was a profusion of Little Stars’ smiles, attitude and high style along with their fashionable escorts, the Big Shots, featuring the men of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lake Erie Monsters, as well as movers and shakers in town.

Flashes of Hope changes the way children with cancer see themselves through the gift of photography and raises money for children's cancer research through its Kick-it program. More than 30,000 children have been photographed, and $1.3 million has been raised for research in just three years, said Mrs. Clarke.
